I gave Penji a shot to lighten the design load I've been carrying for my other ventures. Here’s what I’ve figured out about Penji as a designer looking to catch a break:

To really make the basic Penji plan work for you, there are two main points to grasp.

1. Penji, as they put it, aren’t mind readers. You gotta know precisely what you want and how to explain it to the designer. Being comfortable with research and putting together reference materials for what to do and what to avoid is key. The research I conducted and the references I shared got us moving in the right direction fast, and I was impressed by how quickly the designer got the hang of the brief.

2. Be prepared for every change to take a day and require your attention. You won’t see a change returned the same day. If you’re in a hurry, Penji might not be your best bet.

One extra thing: I was pleasantly surprised to find out you can juggle as many projects as you like... just not all at once. Once they wrap up one project, they’ll jump to the next. The whole one active project at a time thing is a bit misleading (not sure why), but in a good way. I’m glad I can manage five new projects and have them trickling back to me day by day, which really helps with keeping the queue down.

I’d suggest Penji to any creative who has a clear vision and can articulate what they want, plus has the time to document their needs and respond to changes.

Also, for any creatives out there who might be skeptical like I was, you’re NOT limited to stock illustrations and templates as I initially thought. The designers can tweak anything you request. They’re not just production designers; they’re actual artists and skilled design professionals. That’s a big plus.

Penji is approachable, informative, and thorough in their communication. You ask, they deliver. I needed a vector deliverable sent as individual SVGs instead of AI files, and they had it done the next day.

I’m looking forward to using Penji more often, as I can guide the creative process without having to execute it myself, which will help boost the workload my company can manage when we start using Penji for clients instead of just our internal projects.

Penji’s pricing and value are quite competitive. I also appreciate their proprietary software for managing tasks, even if there are a few typos here and there. ;)

I've been using Penji for around 9 months now, and I gotta say, their customer support is top-notch, and the designers are really impressive. If a designer doesn't quite hit the mark, they sort it out fast and bring in someone new for your project.

I had a tough time finding a solid designer for my agency. I gave a shot to a bunch from Fiverr, UpWork, and other freelance platforms, but none met our expectations...
